Basic instructions for The POWER PDR Power Box are as follows.
The Power Box is used to stabilize steel and aluminum panels where the metal is stretched.
The Power Box uses high frequency pulses that actually moves the metal at a molecular level to stiffen and strengthen the metal. With a combination of using traditional Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) methods and The Power Box you are able to save stretched metal (oil cans) from being painted on steel and aluminum, of varying types of damage.
**CAUTION: USE EYE PROTECTION WHEN USING ANY TYPE OF POWER TOOLS.
***CAUTION: THE ELECTRODE WILL GET HOT AND COULD CAUSE BURNS TO SKIN OR MELT INTERIOR PANELS/PLASTIC.
- Unpack your Power Box and admire the pure beauty of this machine.
- Plug it in.
- Turn your voltage dial to the proper setting. Steel starting voltage is 2.30. The working range voltage is between 2.30 to 3.00 Aluminum starting voltage is 3.6. The working voltage depends on the thickness of the metal. The maximum output of the voltage is 7.50. This is not recommended for any repair to use high of a voltage.
- Steel working voltage is between 2.30 to 3.30 to be safe.
- Aluminum working voltage is between 3.80 to 4.30 to be safe.
- When stretched metal is encountered use the following steps to save the stretched metal (oil can) CAUTION: We recommend practicing on a scrap panel to understand how and where the limitations are of this amazing technology. The learning curve is pretty fast for an experienced technician. A) Remove the E-coat or paint from area where the stretched metal. The most effective and efficient way to do this is with a 3-M Brillo pad in a high RPM polisher or a steel wire brush in a cordless drill. (See image)
- B) Place the magnetic ground cable on a bare metal surface.
- C) Turn on The Power Box to the proper working voltage.
- D) In a gentle motion rub the electrode on the area that needs to be stiffened. CAUTION: Do not push the electrode into the metal as if it were a PDR Tool. The result will be a broken electrode. (See image)
- E) Keep the electrode moving in a steady motion. Do not keep the electrode in one place for more than a few seconds as you could compromise the paint or cause discoloration of the surface. You may use a star pattern to stabilize the metal. We don't recommend using a inward spiral to stiffen the metal as you'll leave a very tight center. We do recommend you start at the center of the stretched metal and work your way out, either in a outward spiral or star pattern. There's no right or wrong technique for The Power Box. Use the method that will suit your needs.
If you break or wear out an electrode use a #3 Allen wrench to loosen the top Allen screw on the aluminum collar to replace the electrode.
